Our Mission:

ISDN is an inter-school community dedicated to strengthening diversity, equity and inclusion in independent schools by providing family support, programming,, resources, and opportunities for communication and collaboration between school communities.

Our Vision:

Independent School Diversity Network (ISDN) will transform educational communities by partnering and forming alliances with like minded organizations and by establishing a larger inter-school organizing community. ISDN will become the premier "Safe Meeting Place” for independent school communities and organizations dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion in education to have courageous conversations. The network will  continue its commitment to increasing cultural competency in our communities, and will provide continued opportunities for growth, support,  dialogue and learning experiences through:
  • Expanded interschool resources (topic meetings and dialogues, speakers, conferences, workshops, resource library – speaker’s forum, books, film)
  • Facilitated inter and intra-school parent group meetings
  • Parent/educator alliances
  • Educational and empowerment resources for students (summer programming, tutoring and testing, enrichment and remedial support, leadership opportunities and mentoring, organizations/programs for specific needs, interests and issues, school scholarships, etc.)
  • Interschool family events

ISDN will include a wide range of independent schools who will create communities:
  • That are welcoming to all families; where difference is addressed and embraced and not just tolerated
  • Where schools are able to RETAIN and not just recruit students and employees of diverse backgrounds
  • Which will address issues courageously
  • In which each student receives an equitable education
  • That truly understand the meaning and importance of a multicultural/anti-bias education
  • In which all students will feel confident about who they are as well as be able to see through the lens of their fellow students
  • In which we can not only explore our commonalities but discover the intersections of our diversity
  • That will graduate students who have learned valuable lessons about communicating and collaborating with people different from themselves (Cultural Competency)
